Introduction (English Translation)
The will of the people should emerge
from careful thought and accumulated dialogue.
Yet when it is seized by fleeting
excitement or skillfully crafted words,
it falls from conscious intention into a
mere “phenomenon.”
This poem quietly questions what is
lost, by whom, and in what way,
behind the simple fact of having chosen.
It is a work that looks squarely—coolly,
even at a distance—
at the danger advancing under the name
of democracy.
What Is the Will of the People
It was nothing more than fickleness.
Drawn to novelty and curiosity,
the will of the people fell into a
popularity contest.
Conviction was too strong.
Being deceived no longer mattered.
The will of the people was suspended—then
dropped.
Words no longer told the truth.
A time bomb was hidden in their bellies.
The will of the people was incited,
made to harbor hostility.
To openly say, “Let
blood be shed,”
then excuse it as misunderstanding—and be
forgiven.
The will of the people is manipulated at
face value.
A thickly painted smile begins to crack.
The resolve to fulfill true intentions is
unwavering.
The more the people revel, the greater the
cost they bear.
They misread the winds of the times.
Rejoice until betrayal comes.
The will of the people is divided,
opening deep fissures.
Swept along by uncertain currents of
thought,
the compass that should guide the course
goes mad.
The will of the people is swallowed whole,
dyed into a single color.
