This poem reflects on the enduring power
of poetry written years earlier, poems that continue to illuminate the
realities of the present. Confronting social change, human greed, and the
failures of history, poetry is portrayed not merely as a record of words, but
as a mirror revealing the essence of humanity. Even forgotten words can regain
new meaning as times change, returning as sharp accusations and urgent
questions. Entrusting pain, anger, and the search for truth to the spirit of
language, the poem speaks of poetry as something that resists its age and
shines with a singular brilliance.
“Shining with a Distinctive Brilliance”
A poem written five years ago—
now reflects the age we live in.
Even while resisting the changes of
society,
it reveals the fragile workings of humanity
within them.
The poem does not decay;
it continues to speak to the present.
A poem of forgotten words—
now, at last, its true meaning returns.
Even while raging
at the hideousness of humankind,
it sees within it
the wretched figure of insatiable greed.
The poem boldly reflects the present age.
A poem that speaks across all eras—
laying bare the essence of humanity.
Even while history is treated with
disregard,
it learns from the detested burdens of
human nature.
The poem shines forth
without fear or hesitation.
A poem whose sensitivity
must never grow dull—
writhing within the currents of the world.
Even while realizing
that nothing can be done alone,
it finds its place
and remains unshaken there.
The poem accuses
the unforgivable truths.
A poem that must continue to be written—
because to live
is to gasp beneath the weight of pain.
Even while being cast aside
as someone else’s
concern,
it continues seeking answers
that may lead toward truth.
Entrusting itself to the spirit of words,
the poem shines
with a distinctive brilliance.

Over the past few days, I have reposted
older poems on “Torii Kazuyori’s
Reflections on the World.” Each time I reread them,
they cast new light upon reality.
