This poem reflects on human growth
through the lens of intellectual desire and learning. The thirst for knowledge
is never fully satisfied, and it is precisely this that drives us to continue
questioning and deepening our understanding. Embracing immaturity and even
shame, the poem reveals how learning leads to self-awakening and joy. It
quietly illuminates the essential human pursuit in which new awareness and
possibilities unfold beyond learning.
“Beyond Learning”
The desire to know never dries up.
A hunger driven by the pursuit of learning,
Shame from not having learned enough,
An immature intellect from what has not
been learned.
The desire to know is never fulfilled.
An impulse compelled by learning,
Insight that withers without learning,
Character that decays when one does not
learn.
Do not neglect the desire to know.
A rich world of knowledge received through
learning,
A joyful curiosity that embraces learning,
Learning itself—self-awakening that accepts
how we live.
Do not suppress the desire to know.
Confirming one’s
place through the light of learning,
Understanding the depth of words through
learning,
The joy of sensing the profound depths of
learning.
Because we desire to know, we become human.
Beyond learning, new awareness comes into
view.
Beyond learning, firm judgment is grasped.
Beyond learning lies an unknown longing.
