This poem examines the nature of intimidation, contrasting the survival instincts of animals with the exercise of power in human society. Among animals, intimidation serves as a means of self-preservation. In the human world, however, it often becomes a tool of domination, submission, and war. The strong wield fear as a weapon, while the weak are pressured into obedience in order to survive.
Yet intimidation does not always achieve submission. Those who are cornered may resist, rising to defend their lives and the people they love. Such resistance can transform conflict into prolonged struggle, bringing immense suffering and loss.
Beyond a critique of war, the poem challenges readers to recognize the political manipulation of fear and to question the narratives presented by those in power. Ultimately, it asks how younger generations living in relative peace will learn from a world shaped by threats and coercion, and how they will uphold the ideals of freedom and coexistence.
Intimidation
It is a beast.
It intimidates.
Even in a world ruled by the strong devouring the weak,
the weak defend themselves in their own way.
Desperate not to be eaten,
they struggle to survive.
At times, even a powerful beast hesitates—
and in that instant,
the weaker one flees.
But what of the human world?
The powerful intimidate and trample others.
The weak submit,
hoping not to be killed.
Sometimes, people are slaughtered
as a warning to others.
In that moment,
fear freezes the body.
This is not a story of the last century.
It is a story of human beings
who have fallen beneath the beasts.
Intimidation is met with resistance.
The powerful recast injustice
as a noble cause.
The weak proclaim
the legitimacy of their defense.
The fighting does not cease;
the dead continue to pile up.
While the capitals of the powerful
remain untouched by war,
vast arsenals and explosives
burn the cities of the weak.
The moment to realize
one has been deceived
slips away.
The intimidator expected
a white flag.
Instead,
the conflict became a quagmire
with no end in sight.
The awakened weak
fight to protect
the lives of those they love.
Hatred of madness
inspires young volunteers
to step forward.
Intimidation invites a world
where one must choose
either friend or foe.
If you were threatened,
what would you do?
Could you see through
the empty rhetoric of politicians?
Have you entrusted
the future to blind faith?
Have you turned your eyes away
from the grim realities of the world?
What of the young
born into nations at peace?
One must not be paralyzed by intimidation.
The generation that shares the same future
must learn what a world of threats means,
and decide how to live within it.
Learning is the process
of affirming together
the will to realize
freedom and coexistence.
That resolve
is now being tested.

Intimidation backed by military power spreads fear. Yet there are always those who choose to stand against it.
